Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye is unlikely to be available for the Black Stars' friendly against Mexico on Saturday, as the attacking midfielder is expected to remain with his club for crucial promotion playoffs.

Boakye received his first call-up to the senior national team ahead of the game against Mexico, which is part of Ghana's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, his club commitments with Saint-Etienne look set to prevent him from featuring.

Saint-Etienne finished third at the end of the Ligue 2 season and will now participate in a promotion play-off against OGC Nice for a spot in the French top flight. The first leg of the playoff is scheduled for May 26, just three days after Ghana's friendly against Mexico on May 23. The return leg will follow on May 29.

With promotion to Ligue 1 at stake, Saint-Etienne are expected to keep their key players available for the crucial two-legged tie.

Boakye, who has been an influential figure for the club, will likely remain in France to help his side in their push for promotion.

The 26-year-old will have to wait for another opportunity to earn his first cap for the Black Stars, as club commitments take priority during this decisive stage of the season.
