Ghanaian defender Beres Owusu seals permanent move to Grazer AK until 2029
· GhanaSoccernetGhanaian defender Beres Owusu has completed a permanent move to Austrian Bundesliga side Grazer AK after the club exercised the purchase option included in his loan agreement from French side AS Saint-Etienne.
The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a long-term contract with the Austrian outfit until 2029 following an impressive debut campaign in Graz.
Owusu joined Grazer on loan last August from the French setup and arrived with little attention, but quickly developed into one of the club’s most dependable performers during the 2025/26 Austrian Bundesliga season.
The Ghanaian defender featured in 31 league matches, missing only one game through suspension, and played every minute in 30 of those appearances.
His commanding displays at the heart of defence played a crucial role in helping Grazer secure their Bundesliga status.
Speaking after confirming the permanent transfer, sporting director Tino Wawra praised the defender’s qualities and influence on the team.
“Even though it’s a large sum for GAK, it was always clear that we would exercise our option on a player like this if it was financially feasible. With his physique, Beres is an exceptional player for Austria,” Wawra said.
Owusu also expressed his happiness at remaining with the club.
“When I arrived in Graz, I didn’t really know what to expect. But from the first second, I felt very comfortable with my teammates and the coaching staff. I’m delighted the club continues to have faith in me,” he said.
The permanent move marks another important step in Owusu’s career as he continues to establish himself in European football.
