2026 World Cup: Don’t reappoint Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach – Dr Nyaho Tamakloe tells GFA

· GhanaSoccernet

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has advised against the possible reappointment of Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The GFA is currently searching for a new coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany in March during international friendlies.

Kwesi Appiah, a former Black Stars coach with two separate spells in charge, has been mentioned among potential candidates for the vacant position.

Others reportedly in the frame include 2014 World Cup-winning coach Joachim Löw and South African tactician Pitso Mosimane.

However, speaking to Graphic Sports, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed strong reservations about Appiah’s return, insisting that past circumstances should rule out any comeback.

He further suggested that the former coach himself should decline any such opportunity.

Meanwhile, the GFA is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming days as preparations intensify ahead of the Black Stars’ upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Wales in May.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.
