Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku has charged the Black Starlets to make Ghana proud at the upcoming 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, urging the team to restore the country’s dominance in youth football.

Okraku delivered the message when he visited the team at the Kotoka International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday to personally see off the contingent ahead of their departure to Morocco.

The GFA president arrived around 4 am, underlining the importance attached to the tournament and the confidence placed in the squad and technical team.

Addressing the players and officials, Simeon-Okraku described the team’s qualification for the tournament as a major turning point after Ghana’s long absence from the competition.

“For years, we have not been able to qualify for the AFCON. But you have done it this time,” he said.

“This year is a year of turnaround for Ghana football, and it starts with you. I have absolute confidence in this team, the quality your technical team has put together and all the preparations you have gone through.”

He urged the players not only to secure qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup but also to aim for continental success.

“Don’t just go and qualify for the World Cup, but also put Ghana back where we belong by winning it. Believe in yourself, and you can do it,” he added.

Simeon-Okraku also reminded the players of the legacy built by previous Starlets generations that conquered Africa and the world stage.

“You are carrying the hopes of millions of Ghanaians. When you step onto that pitch, remember that you are not alone; an entire nation stands behind you,” he stated.

The GFA president further expressed confidence in the technical team, praising their preparations ahead of the tournament.

“The technical team has done its part, and I trust their guidance. Listen to them, stay disciplined, and play for each other. Success will follow if you remain focused and united.”

He concluded with a final rallying call to the team ahead of the competition.

“Go out there with courage, play with pride, and never be afraid of any opponent. Ghana has a rich history in youth football, and it is your time to write the next chapter. Make the nation proud.”

The Black Starlets have since departed for Morocco where they will compete against some of Africa’s top young talents at the tournament.
