Andre Ayew's NAC Breda to compete in Eerste Divisie after relegation from Eredivisie
· GhanaSoccernetGhanaian forward André Ayew has suffered relegation with Dutch side NAC Breda following the club’s confirmed drop from the Dutch Eredivisie to the Eerste Divisie.
The result was sealed after 16th-placed Volendam drew 1-1 with Excelsior, taking their tally to 32 points—seven clear of NAC Breda with just two matches remaining.
Even with games still to play, the mathematics confirmed Breda can no longer escape the bottom three in the 18-team league.
NAC Breda’s relegation was further complicated by the abandonment of their scheduled fixture against Heerenveen after fireworks were set off at the stadium.
However, results elsewhere ensured their fate was already effectively sealed, leaving them rooted in 17th place and destined for the second tier next season.
Ayew, the former Ghana captain, joined the club in January on a short-term free transfer deal. Since arriving, he has managed one goal in 16 league appearances.
He is one of three Ghanaian internationals at the club, alongside Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi, all of whom have endured a difficult campaign.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Ayew is widely expected to depart NAC Breda following their relegation.
