Black Starlets head coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum has provided insight into his player selection ahead of the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, stressing that his squad was built on merit and readiness.

Ogum has named a 21-man team for the continental tournament, which begins next week, as Ghana aim to mount a strong challenge in North Africa.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association website, the former Asante Kotoko coach said his decisions were guided by key performance indicators observed during the team’s preparation phase.

“We have carefully selected this squad based on form, discipline, and tactical understanding,” Narteh Ogum told the Ghana FA website.

“These boys have shown great commitment during our preparations, and I believe they are ready to compete at the highest level,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Starlets have already touched down in Rabat on Wednesday to continue their final preparations ahead of the competition, which officially kicks off on May 13, 2026.

Ghana have been drawn in a tough Group D alongside Algeria, Senegal, and South Africa, setting up a demanding path in the early stages of the tournament.
