Player exodus remains major challenge for Ghana Premier League - Fred Pappoe

Former Ghana Football Association vice president Fred Pappoe believes the continued departure of players abroad remains one of the biggest challenges facing the Ghana Premier League.

Pappoe, in an interview on Sporty FM, said clubs find it difficult to hold on to players once offers arrive from agents and foreign teams because of the economic realities many footballers face.

"It’s a very difficult area because once a player receives an approach from any agent or any prospective club, no matter how funny in terms of what they have to offer, the economic conditions in which they operate with their families, before you realise the player has gone," he said.

Pappoe noted that improving sponsorship, financing and league scheduling could help make the domestic league more attractive to both players and supporters.

He added that getting fans back into the stadiums remains important in efforts to improve the local game.

He also praised some club owners for creating better conditions that allow players to stay longer at their clubs.

Pappoe specifically mentioned Moses Parker and Kwame Kyei for their investment and commitment to Ghana football.

According to Pappoe, creating the right environment at club level will help strengthen and deepen the development of the Ghana Premier League.
