2026 World Cup: No player is above the team – Carlos Queiroz cautions Black Stars squad
· GhanaSoccernetGhana head coach Carlos Queiroz has urged his players to maintain discipline and unity as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that collective responsibility will take precedence over individual ambition.
The 73-year-old, appointed last month as Otto Addo’s successor on a short-term contract, will lead Ghana into the tournament in North America this summer.
In an interview on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, the experienced Portuguese tactician—who has previously managed Egypt, Iran and Colombia—delivered a firm message on team spirit and commitment.
“Nobody will be above the team,” he declared.
“Everybody must play with only one thing in mind — Ghana, the pride of the nation and the happiness of the people," the former Real Madrid boss added.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, with Group L fixtures against Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, Queiroz’s side will test themselves in friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2, as preparations intensify.
Queiroz is expected to name his final squad for the competition on June 1.
