· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei has expressed confidence in the group of players selected for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico, describing the squad as ambitious and highly motivated as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A 23-man team has been named for the fixture, which forms part of the build-up to the global tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in an interview with Flashscore, Ofei explained the rationale behind the selections, highlighting a blend of domestic league standouts and emerging talents.
"For the upcoming game against Mexico, we have selected a very talented and ambitious group of players from our local league, alongside some exciting U23 talents and players who are highly motivated to show their qualities to the nation and to our new head coach, Mr Carlos Queiroz," he said.
Ghana will also face Wales in another preparatory match on June 2 as part of their final phase of friendly games before the World Cup.
The Black Stars, who are set to make their fifth appearance at the tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. They will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
Ghana will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010, having exited at the first round in both 2014 and 2022.
