The four-time African champions open their Group stage journey on Tuesday at BMO Field, with kick-off set for 23:00 GMT, carrying the hopes of millions of supporters back home and across the diaspora.
In a statement released on 17 June by the Presidency Communications Directorate, Mahama commended the team for securing a fifth World Cup appearance, describing the achievement as a reflection of Ghana’s resilience, unity and sporting identity.
He reminded the players of the responsibility they carry on football’s biggest stage, noting that they represent not just themselves but the aspirations of more than 30 million Ghanaians.
The President highlighted the nationwide support behind the squad, pointing to the shared pride felt from communities across the country, while also acknowledging the Ghanaian diaspora in North America. He encouraged fans in Toronto and beyond to turn out in strong numbers and act as a “12th man” in the stands.
The statement also outlined efforts to ensure supporters at home can follow the tournament, including arrangements to secure broadcasting rights for wide public access across the country.
Mahama concluded with a call for discipline, belief and national pride, urging the players to give their all for the flag and for the next generation watching their journey unfold.

Ghana begin their campaign against Panama before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium and Croatia on June 27, as they aim to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2010.
