Six Ghana Premier League players named in Black Stars squad for Mexico friendly

Six players from the Ghana Premier League have been handed call-ups to the Black Stars squad for their upcoming international friendly against Mexico as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will face the North American side on Friday, May 22, 2026, in a fixture designed to fine-tune the team’s readiness for the global tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 23-man squad for the encounter, which includes a strong domestic contingent reflecting the growing influence of the local league on the national team setup.

The invited GPL players are Solomon Agbasi of Hearts of Oak, Gidios Aseako and Ebenezer Adade of Dreams FC, Razak Simpson of Nations FC, Ebenezer Abban of Heart of Lions, and Salim Adams of Medeama SC.

Following the clash with Mexico, Ghana will conclude their pre-World Cup friendly schedule with a game against Wales on June 2.

The Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, having been drawn in Group I alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Ghana begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
