LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 14: Jarell Quansah of Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Jarell Quansah named in England's controversial World Cup squad as Tuchel drops Maguire, Foden and Palmer

English-Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah has been included in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad as the German manager left out several top stars including a 'gutted' Harry Maguire.

The former Chelsea manager also dropped Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Alexander Trent-Arnold of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid respectively.

The announcement of Tuchel's squad was preceded with huge anticipation following reports of the absence of some regular squad members.

United defender Maguire responded to his dropping on social media with disappointment, posting: "I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I've had. I've been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I wish the players all the best."

Meanwhile, his absence means an opportunity for young stars like Quansah to shine at the tournament in North America.

Quansah was born to Ghanaian parents in England and has represented the Three Lions at youth levels but there were reports he has been under the radar of the Football Association.

Although there was nothing official, the West African nation had a chance to convince him to switch nationalities after making only one senior appearance for England.

However, that chance is gradually slipping away after the lanky centre-back made World Cup squad.

Ironically, the Bayer Leverkusen player will face Ghana in Group L of the competition in Boston on June 23.
