Prosper Narteh Ogum likens Kotoko coaching job to managing Brazil national team

· GhanaSoccernet

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has drawn a striking comparison between managing the Porcupine Warriors and handling one of world football’s biggest national teams, stressing the job carries immense prestige and pressure similar to coaching Brazil.

Ogum, who is currently in charge of the Black Starlets, has enjoyed two spells with the Kumasi-based giants, guiding them to the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League title during his first stint before returning between 2023 and 2025.

Speaking on the GFA Podcast hosted by Patrick Akoto, the former WAFA coach reflected on the magnitude of coaching Kotoko, describing it as a role he will always treasure.

“I have never regretted coaching Asante Kotoko. It is like coaching the Brazilian national team; you can never have that kind of regret. I don’t regret it, and I have nothing against anyone—whether players, supporters, or management,” he said.

He further stressed the pride and recognition that comes with the job, noting how strongly the club’s identity follows him even after leaving.

“To me, it is an honour, and it will continue to be an honour for me to coach Kotoko. People now address me as the former Kotoko coach, not even Ebusua Dwarfs or WAFA coach, and that is a pride I carry. I have no regrets.”

Ogum’s comparison highlights the weight and prestige of coaching Asante Kotoko, a club whose stature in Ghanaian football makes the role comparable, in his view, to leading a global powerhouse like Brazil.
