Fred Pappoe calls for reforms to revive Ghana Premier League

Former Ghana Football Association vice president Fred Pappoe has called for major reforms to help revive the Ghana Premier League amid growing concerns over declining fan interest and the continued departure of local talents.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Pappoe said improving attendance, sponsorship and league organisation remains key to rebuilding confidence in the domestic competition.

The experienced football administrator noted that the once vibrant league has suffered in recent years due to poor scheduling, limited financial backing and the mass exodus of players to clubs abroad.

"One is to get the fans back into the stadium. Two is to do proper scheduling. Three is to enhance and deepen our sponsorship campaigns," Pappoe said.

He admitted that keeping talented players in the league remains difficult because many players quickly accept opportunities abroad due to economic pressures.

Pappoe added that improving financing, sponsorship and the overall football environment would help clubs become more stable and competitive.

He also praised club owners such as Moses Parker and Kwame Kyei for their investment and commitment to supporting football development in Ghana.

According to him, creating the right conditions at club level will help strengthen the Ghana Premier League and restore excitement among supporters.
