I am not perturbed about public opinion – Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he remains fully committed to improving his performances and will not be distracted by external criticism as he continues his journey with Ghana’s national team.
The Black Stars' first-choice shot-stopper, who made his debut in March 2025, has since established himself as a key figure between the posts.
Despite occasional scrutiny from sections of supporters, Asare insists his confidence remains intact.
Speaking to 3Sports, he said he prefers to stay focused on growth rather than public opinion.
“So I don’t worry about people’s opinion. I know we can make mistakes in life, but I don’t let that burden me,” he explained. “Today, I can make a mistake, but tomorrow I can achieve something great. So I don’t let some things worry me that much. My encouragement is that God helps me maintain the level that I am now.”
Asare also addressed suggestions that his rise to the national team has been sudden, stressing that his progress is the result of years of consistency and hard work at club level with Hearts of Oak.
“I’m a committed goalkeeper. Those who don’t know me will think I came from nowhere to the Black Stars,” he added.
He further noted that squad selection decisions lie solely with the technical team, saying, “Player appointment and goalkeeper selection are all the work of the coach.”
Currently, the experienced goalkeeper is part of Ghana’s squad preparing for their upcoming international friendly against Mexico on May 22, 2026. He was called up to replace Gidios Aseako of Dreams FC.
