Antoine Semenyo has become the highest-scoring Ghanaian player for a Premier League club in all competitions in a single season after firing Manchester City to FA Cup glory against Chelsea at Wembley.

The Ghana international scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute with a clever first-time finish from Erling Haaland’s cross to secure a 1-0 victory for Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The strike was Semenyo’s 20th goal of the season, taking him past former Ghana striker Tony Yeboah, who scored 19 goals for Leeds United during the 1995-96 campaign, according to Opta.

The goal also saw Semenyo become the first Ghanaian player to score in a men’s FA Cup final since the competition began in 1871.

Semenyo has enjoyed an outstanding campaign in England, scoring 10 goals for Bournemouth during the first half of the season before joining Manchester City in January.

The 26-year-old, since arriving at City, has added another 10 goals and played an important role in Pep Guardiola’s side as they continue to challenge for major honours.

The Ghana forward has already helped City win the EFL Cup and FA Cup, while the club also remain in the race for the Premier League title heading into the final matches of the season.

His performances this season have also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Year award, further underlining his rise in English football.
