Violet is fleeing San Francisco to locate her father, proving once again that even after civilization collapses, daddy issues remain humanity's most renewable resource. Walter's mysterious gift could be a blessing or a curse, which is generally how gifts work in comics; nobody ever receives a perfectly ordinary gift card and uses it without awakening an ancient evil. Meanwhile, David's escape from the scavenger camp is interrupted by an attack, because post-apocalyptic facilities apparently have the same checkout policy as hotels: leaving late incurs additional violence.
