New James Bond Casting Update Reveals Three Frontrunners as Final Screen Tests Approach
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantThe hunt for the next James Bond is heating up, and we are getting closer to finding out who will take over as 007. Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly preparing to screen-test its final group of candidates, with three familiar names emerging as serious contenders for the iconic role.
According to Deadline, the final round of auditions could begin as early as Friday and continue through next week. At least four actors have reportedly received offers to screen-test, with Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor expected to be among them.
Their involvement hasn't been officially confirmed, and the identity of the fourth potential candidate remains unknown.
Lowden, known for his work in Slow Horses, and Turner, whose credits include One Night Only, have become two of the most talked-about names in the search. O’Connor is also reportedly in the mix, making this an interesting group of actors who could each bring something different to Bond.
There are also some surprising developments involving actors previously linked to the role. Jack O’Connell was reportedly being considered, but sources now claim he isn't scheduled to participate in the upcoming screen tests. However, other insiders dispute that information, so his status remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi, known for Euphoria and Frankenstein, is reportedly no longer in contention. That's particularly interesting considering a recent report from insider Jeff Sneider suggesting Elordi was at the top of the list and had even landed the role. It looks like that information was off the mark.
The auditions were initially supposed to take place earlier this month, but scheduling conflicts among the finalists pushed everything toward the end of October. This allows Amazon MGM Studios to evaluate the candidates around the same time.
The actual screen tests are expected to be pretty extensive. Insiders claim they'll focus on three major elements including stunt work, camera presence, and dialogue. Basically, the studio wants to see who can convincingly handle the action, command the screen, and deliver the kind of performance audiences expect from James Bond.
Even if the tests wrap next week, a casting announcement might not immediately follow. There's currently no confirmed timeline for a decision, although industry insiders expect the next Bond to be chosen before the end of 2026.
Amazon MGM Studios hasn't commented on the latest developments, sticking with its previous statement: “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Whoever gets the part will be working with director Denis Villeneuve, who is set to take on the next James Bond movie after completing Dune: Part Three.
Villeneuve recently spoke bout why he decided to jump from the world of Arrakis into the Bond franchise, explaining: “I thought, ‘When it’s done, I need a very powerful rocket to pull me away from Arrakis.’ When I was asked to do the next Bond, I said: ‘OK, this is what I need,'”
With Villeneuve directing and the casting search reportedly reaching its final stage, the next chapter of the James Bond franchise is starting to come together.
Now comes the big question: Who should be the next 007? Lowden, Turner, and O’Connor are all interesting choices, but it'll be fascinating to see which actor ultimately gets the keys to the Aston Martin.
