RICK AND MORTY Spinoff PRESIDENT CURTIS Teaser Promises an Insane Mix of THE X-FILES and NATIONAL TREASURE

Across eight seasons, Rick and Morty has built a reputation for throwing out one outrageous sci-fi concept after another without slowing down. The series has bounced through dimensions, destroyed timelines, tangled with gods, and somehow still keeps finding fresh ideas to play with.

Now Adult Swim is expanding that universe again with a new spinoff series centered on one of the show’s best recurring characters, President Andre Curtis.

Fresh off the release of Rick and Morty: The Anime and following the digital short series Vindicators 2, Adult Swim has dropped the first teaser for President Curtis, with Keith David returning to voice the chaotic Commander-in-Chief. The clip wastes absolutely no energy setting the tone for what this show is aiming to be.

The teaser opens with President Curtis making a White House announcement in which he casually confirms that he killed Paul Bunyan, the giant lumberjack folklore legend. Apparently, this version of America has even stranger government secrets than we imagined.

From there, Rick and Morty themselves break down the premise in the most Rick and Morty way possible. Morty explains Curtis is “out there, doing his own thing,” while Rick adds, “I guess he does X-Files stuff, monster hunting.” Morty then sums up the entire vibe of the series with two words: “National Treasure.”

Honestly, that pitch sounds kind of amazing. The idea of combining conspiracy mysteries, monster hunting, and bizarre American folklore feels like a perfect playground for this universe.

If the teaser is any indication, President Curtis looks ready to lean hard into hidden-history insanity with supernatural creatures and government cover-ups packed into standalone adventures.

It seems like the series could dive deep into twisted versions of American myths and legends. Bigfoot showing up seems inevitable. Johnny Appleseed probably isn’t safe either.

Co-creators Dan Harmon and James Siciliano previously shared their excitement for the series, saying:

“President Curtis has always been one of our favorite characters to write — he’s the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office. Now we finally get to go on sci-fi missions from Curtis’ point of view. And with Keith David leading the charge, it’s going to be a wild ride.”

Jim Rash (Community) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) are joining the series as regular voice cast members. There’s no official confirmation yet on whether Rick Sanchez himself will pop up throughout the show, but it would be shocking if he didn’t make at least a few appearances to create problems for Curtis.

President Curtis premieres on Adult Swim this July and will arrive alongside the closing episodes of Rick and Morty Season 9. If this teaser is anything to go by, Adult Swim may have another weird animated hit on its hands.
