It's Already a Very Strong Year for the YU-GI-OH! TCG
by Tommy Williams · GeekTyrantWithin the last month and a half, Konami has released two of the greatest Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game products! In March, they released the Legendary Modern Decks 2026.
This featured three preconstructed modern decks complete with reprints of valuable staples including the Mulcharmy cards, Forbidden Droplet, and many more. Plus, two of the three decks are solid archetypes, Mitsurugi and Sky Striker which have even topped at recent events. T
he third deck is X-Sabers which has most duelists scratching their heads since even with the new support it’s not very good outside of maybe a night or two at your locals. This product has been so well received that Konami even recently announced a follow-up deck set coming later this year (more details below).
Then, in April, Konami released Rarity Collection V. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Rarity Collection sets and Rarity Collection V had even more to offer. In addition to fantastic reprints including the Kashtira cards, Dominus cards, and more; Konami has introduced stamped artwork and overframe artwork cards to the TCG.
I have found that while I’m not the biggest fan of the stamped artwork, they have grown on me a bit and I would like to get one of each (although I’m probably fine with just the ultra rare versions). Meanwhile, the overframe artworks are really cool, but the current selection for the TCG feels a little lackluster.
There are only 10 available right now and I feel like many of the options aren’t very iconic or speak to me. That said, they are still really cool and I’m very excited to see future overframes be released.
Konami was kind enough to provide me with a small box of Rarity Collection V and a box of the Legendary Modern Decks 2026 which you can watch me open below, but let’s look a little forward to what is coming in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG.
In early May, Blazing Dominion will be released. This is the next core set and I know many duelists are excited for it. It has support for a plethora of archetypes including the Medius archetypes and GMX (I wish it was a better archetype) plus some cool generic cards like Fydraulis Harmonia.
Then, on August 7, duelists will be able to procure a copy of Legendary Arc-V Decks ($31.99 MSRP). Once again there will be three ready-to-play decks, but this time they are inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. Odd-Eyes, Lunalight, and Speedroid are the three featured archetypes getting new support and I think it’ll be fun.
I’m not a big fan of pendulum strategies, so I’m hesitant to play these, but if the new cards make them good and fun, then I’ll definitely at least consider them. I think Speedroid would be my top pick assuming that they’re similar power levels.
The new Odd-Eyes card revealed is a Link-3 that can destroy a card you control to draw a card and if you destroy a Pendulum, you get an extra Pendulum Summon. Lunalight’s revealed card is a Level 5 Beast-Warrior that will Special Summon itself and search a Polymerization card from your Deck or Graveyard to make the deck even more consistent.
Finally, the new Speedroid card is a Level 4 Tuner that can be Special Summoned and then send a Speedroid card from your Deck to the Graveyard like an in-archetype Foolish Burial that can also search you a Speedroid Spell/Trap and potentially destroy a monster on the field. In addition, Legendary Arc-V will introduce Starlight 2.0 which is enhanced technology with “richer colors and rainbow foil borders.” The rarity breakdown is below:
Legendary Arc-V Decks contains 168 cards:
- 3 Secret Rares
- 18 Ultra Rares
- 144 Commons
- 3 bonus Secret Rares, with a chance to upgrade to Starlight Rare instead!
