THE STEP DADDY Trailer Unleashes a Wild Family Man Serial Killer Horror Story

by · GeekTyrant

Lionsgate released the trailer for The Step Daddy, a scrappy horror thriller that’s finally clawing its way to release after sitting on the shelf since 2020. It’s headed straight to VOD this April, and this thing looks like it knows exactly what kind of chaotic, over-the-top ride it wants to be.

The story leans hard into that classic “too good to be true” setup. We meet Tim, a seemingly kind, easygoing stepdad who fits perfectly into suburban life. But yeah… that doesn’t last long.

Here’s the description: "When a seemingly charming stepfather suddenly stabs his wife & stepson, it lights the fuse to a horrifying string of frightening murders.

“On the surface, Tim is a thoughtful & mild-mannered family man, but deep within him lies an insatiable killer, forever on the hunt for his next victim.

“As his body count rises & his new family begins to suspect the evil he possesses, the race is on to stop this brutal sociopath before it's too late."

The film stars Vincent M. Ward from The Walking Dead, alongside Ptosha Storey, Lew Temple, Nick Gomez, Felissa Rose, Sadie Katz, and Rusty Coones. That lineup alone should give genre fans a pretty good idea of the vibe this thing is going for.

It’s written and directed by Thomas J. Churchill, NS Lionsgate is sending it straight to VOD on April 28th, 2026.

And look, there’s no way around it, this trailer has a weird, almost parody-like tone. It kind of feels like one of those fake trailers you’d see in a sketch comedy show… except this one is very real. Whether that works for you or not is going to depend on how much you enjoy your horror with a side of absurdity.
