WEREWOLF BY NIGHT 2 Update: Michael Giacchino Explains Why the MCU Sequel Is Taking So Long

If you've been hoping that Marvel would finally sink its teeth into a sequel to Werewolf by Night, you'll need to keep hanging on a little longer.

While fans have been eager to see Michael Giacchinoreturn to the strange and spooky corner of the MCU that he introduced in 2022, it sounds like the project is still working its way through Marvel's long development process.

Speaking on the red carpet for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Giacchino offered an update on the status of a follow-up to Werewolf by Night. While there's still no release window or production timeline, he made it clear that conversations are happening and that he hasn't given up on making it happen.

Explaining why it's taking so long, Giacchino said: “We’re talking about it. Everything takes forever to do. There’s a lot of planning that has to happen. Everything has to fit into a particular place at a particular time.

“So, you know, nothing moves as fast as we’d like it to. But, you know, I hope that one day you’ll be sitting there watching another Werewolf by Night. That’s my hope.”

It's a very Marvel answer. The studio has a massive interconnected slate, and every project has to fit into a much larger puzzle. Even when there's excitement from the filmmakers, getting everything lined up can take years.

This update also follows comments Giacchino made back in November, when he revealed that a Werewolf by Night sequel could end up being his next directing project. So while things are moving slower than fans would like, it doesn't sound like the project has been abandoned.

Released in 2022 as Marvel Studios' first Special Presentation, Werewolf by Night introduced Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell and immediately stood apart from the rest of the MCU.

Its awesome black-and-white presentation, classic Universal Monsters-inspired atmosphere, practical creature effects, and horror movie vibe made it one of Marvel's most unique projects.

Personally, Werewolf by Night is one of my favorite things Marvel Studios has ever made. It proved the MCU could step outside the superhero formula and embrace a completely different style of storytelling.

It was creepy, fun, surprisingly emotional, and packed with old-school monster movie charm. That's exactly why it's frustrating that a sequel is taking so long to get off the ground.

There are still so many stories left to tell with Jack Russell, Elsa Bloodstone, Ted, and the supernatural side of Marvel. With characters like Blade, Moon Knight, and Ghost Rider all connected to that darker corner of the universe, Werewolf by Night feels like it deserves a much bigger place in Marvel's future.

Hopefully Giacchino gets the opportunity to make another chapter sooner rather than later, because I'd happily return to that gothic world the moment Marvel gives the green light.

Until then, it sounds like fans will just have to be patient and hope the pieces eventually fall into place.
