Inde Navarrette Talks About Where Nikki's Story Could Go in an OBSESSION Sequel
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantInde Navarrette has a pretty exciting future ahead of her, but she isn't ready to leave the twisted world of Obsession behind just yet.
The actress, who delivered a fantastic performance as Nikki in the horror film, says she'd happily return for a sequel, and she already has some interesting thoughts about what comes next for her character.
During a recent appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Navarrette discussed the possibility ofObsession 2and how Nikki might deal with everything she experienced in the first movie.
While Nikki was finally freed from the supernatural curse of the One Wish Willow, that doesn't mean her nightmare is over. The curse left plenty of destruction and death in its wake, and Nikki could find herself facing some serious questions from law enforcement.
There's also the psychological damage to consider. Nikki endured a horrific experience that was completely beyond her control, and Navarrette believes that's where a sequel could explore some interesting territory.
“I would totally be open to doing a sequel,” Navarrette said. “Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no? And what is she doing afterwards? I think the non-pretty answer, which I think is more important to give sometimes than kind of just giggling through answers, is she’s starting a grief process.
“When things happen that are completely out of our control, like losing a loved one, losing a parent, losing autonomy, having an experience that wasn’t your fault, it’s very difficult to understand anything. She’s just starting the grief process.”
That's an interesting direction for Nikki, especially considering how much the character has already suffered. Rather than simply throwing her into another supernatural nightmare, a sequel could explore the consequences of the first film and what it would actually take for someone to recover from something so horrific.
Director Curry Barkerhas already expressed interest in expanding on the ending of Obsession with another film, so there's certainly room to continue Nikki's story. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but it's good to know Navarrette would be interested in coming back.
Of course, the actress has plenty of other opportunities heading her way. Her breakout performance in Obsession has put her on Hollywood's radar, with potential Best Actress awards recognition in the conversation.
She's also preparing to host the Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live and is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Rogue in Marvel Studios' upcomingX-Menmovie, scheduled to hit theaters in May 2028.
Those are some pretty awesome opportunities, but Navarrette isn't interested in accepting every project that comes her way. She's thinking carefully about the kinds of roles she wants to pursue and the career she hopes to build.
“I think the future is looking like really hunkering down because I’m in a very specific opportunity in my career where I can kind of make it last as long as humanly possible or throw it all away,” she said.
“I really want to be specific with the next couple of my decisions to really solidify what I want to do in this industry. And what I want to do is play characters that are people and grounded and really thought-through.”
It's encouraging to hear that she's focused on finding characters with substance, especially as she moves into major franchise territory with Marvel.
As for Obsession 2, there's plenty of potential to take Nikki's story in a fascinating new direction. The first movie put her through hell, and exploring how she picks up the pieces could make for an equally compelling follow-up.
Would you like to see Navarrette return as Nikki in an Obsession sequel, or do you think her story is better left where it ended?
