FAR CRY TV Series Adds Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brendan Gleeson to Its Cast

TheFar CryTV series is loading up on some serious acting talent. Oscar nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brendan Gleeson have joined FX’s upcoming adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit video game franchise, adding two more big names to a cast that already includes Rob Mac, Lizzy Caplan, and Steve Buscemi.

Leigh, who earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for The Hateful Eight, and Gleeson, known for The Banshees of Inisherin and Spider-Noir, will appear during the first season.

They’re joined by Hamish Linklater (Batman: Caped Crusader, The Whisper Man), Sam Spruell (Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Jamie Demetriou (Only Murders in the Building).

Exactly who these actors are playing remains under wraps, as FX hasn’t revealed any story details yet. What we do know is that Far Cry is being developed as an anthology series, taking a cue from the games by introducing a new cast and setting with each season.

Since Ubisoft launched the first game in 2004, the mainline entries have regularly jumped to different locations with new protagonists, villains, and conflicts. It gives the FX series plenty of freedom to reinvent itself from season to season rather than trying to stretch one game’s story across several years.

The Far Cry TV series was announced in November 2025 as a collaboration between FX Networks and Ubisoft. Mac is serving as lead, co-creator, and executive producer through More Better Productions, while Noah Hawley co-created the series and executive produces.

The series will air on FX and Hulu in the U.S., with Disney+ handling international distribution. There’s currently no release date.

The most recent mainline game, Far Cry 6, arrived in October 2021 and transported players to the fictional Caribbean island of Yara. The game follows guerrilla fighter Dani Rojas as they join a rebellion against dictator Antón Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

Ubisoft also reportedly had a Far Cry extraction shooter in development, but that project was canceled in July. The publisher is said to be working on another open-world FPS, codenamed Kodiak, alongside the next mainline Far Cry game.

There are still plenty of questions surrounding FX’s adaptation, particularly when it comes to its first-season story and how closely it will resemble the games. But the cast gives the series a pretty interesting group of actors to play with.
