MORBIUS Star Adria Arjona Calls Out an Ego-Driven "Asshole" Method Actor and the Internet Thinks It's Jared Leto

Method acting can produce some incredible performances, but Adria Arjona has apparently seen the uglier side of it firsthand. The Morbius star recently opened up about working with an actor whose commitment to the method seemed to come with a serious ego problem.

Arjona didn't reveal the actor's identity, but fans on social media quickly started connecting dots and landed on Jared Leto, her Morbius co-star. There's no confirmation that Leto is the person she's talking about, but his documented behavior while making the Marvel film has made him the popular guess.

While looking back at her career, including Andor and Hit Man, the Onslaught star recalled being stunned by one co-star's behavior.

"I've had it with an actor that I was like, 'Good God,'" Arjona recalled. "But it was more just like an ego trip. I'm like, 'How are you getting away with this?' I’m confused by it, too. I’m like, 'Wow, if I start doing that, I will never work again.'"

Rather than simply getting angry about it, Arjona became fascinated by how someone could behave that way at work and apparently face little consequence for it.

"I was in shock by the behavior, but also in awe. I was like, 'You are f*cking fascinating. What makes you think that this is OK?' I really needed to get into [their] brain about it.

"I would watch interviews of this actor—not saying female or male, just actor in general—and I would be like, 'Oh my God, they're so nice. They're so nice. What a good actor.' It just fascinates me to see people, how they behave."

Naturally, the internet started playing detective. Leto became the leading theory because of the stories surrounding his approach to playing Dr. Michael Morbius.

During production on Morbius, Leto reportedly remained in character between takes and used crutches to slowly make his way to the bathroom.

The trips could take as long as 45 minutes, reportedly causing production delays. A compromise was eventually reached that involved taking him to the bathroom in a wheelchair.

Leto's method acting has also attracted plenty of attention before. While playing the Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad, stories emerged about the strange gifts he sent his co-stars as part of his process.

Again, Arjona hasn't said she's talking about Leto, so the connection remains speculation from fans. Her larger criticism, however, is very clear. She doesn't have much patience for actors using "method acting" as permission to treat everyone else badly.

"Can we cancel method acting? Because there are a lot of assholes in there, and then they just say, 'I'm a method actor,' and shit. I don't buy it. You don't get to behave like this."

She also pointed to what she sees as a major double standard in Hollywood. "You will never see a woman say she’s a method actor. Just men who are assholes, because we wouldn't get away with it. We would never work again."

It's a pretty savage assessment of a practice that has been debated in Hollywood for years. Plenty of acclaimed performances have come from actors who immerse themselves completely in a role, but Arjona's argument is whatever process an actor uses shouldn't make everyone else's job miserable.

Arjona has plenty happening beyond her experience with Morbius. Following her run in Sony's Marvel Universe, rumors have linked her to James Gunn's DCU, with speculation that she could play Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow.

Maxima has also been floated as another possibility, so there's still no confirmation about who she'll play.

As for the mystery method actor, Arjona seems content to leave the name out of it. The fans, of course, have already picked their suspect.
