Nightcrawler Actor Alan Cumming Doesn't Understand the Plot of AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and Knows He's Just "Here to Run Around"
by Jessica Fisher · GeekTyrantAlan Cumming is returning to play his X-Men character Nightcrawler in the upcoming multiversal Marvel adventure Avengers: Doomsday, and despite his willingness to return, and his probability of knocking it out of the park, he has no idea what’s going on.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM, the Emmy winning actor talked about his time on set of the film, stating: “To be honest, I don’t fully understand the plot. There was a bit when we were shooting a scene, and it was one of the rare scenes when I was actually on the backlot and not in front of a blue screen.
“And this man came and said, ‘So right now Alan, these giant robots are blah blah,’ and started to tell me the thing, and I was like, ‘You know what, thank you so much, but just tell me where I point my, whatever I point. And I’ll do that. Really, I just know I’m here to run around.'”
I don’t think Alan Cumming is alone in not knowing what’s going on in a Marvel movie of this caliber. With an ensemble this big, no one is in every scene, and the film doesn’t get shot in sequence, so it would be hard for anyone aside from the writers and directors to completely piece it together.
It seems like with the NDAs and all the press the actors have to do ahead of the film’s release, the less they know, the better.
Either way, I’m sure the performances will be top notch, and I look forward to seeing how this story plays out. Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026.
