Inside the five-star Devon holiday cottage with a woodfired hot tub
by Katie Timms · PlymouthLiveA 'superb' Devon barn with reverse-level layout is impressing visitors from the moment they step inside. Lower Walreddon Barn in Tavistock boasts a five-star rating and features its own wood-fired hot tub.
The beautifully renovated, detached stone barn accommodates eight people and is listed on Sykes Cottages - with availability throughout the summer holidays, where seven nights in July costs £2,178, working out at approximately £38 per person per day.
Lower Walreddon Barn offers four bedrooms, comprising one lower-ground king-size with en-suite and freestanding bath, walk-in shower, a lower-ground king-size with en-suite walk-in shower, and two lower-ground twin rooms.
There's also an open-plan living space, featuring a kitchen, dining area, and sitting area with a wood-burning stove. The property welcomes two well-behaved dogs, though some visitors have mentioned the property garden has "quite large" gaps in the fence rails, although they say this didn't affect their stay.
One delighted guest commended the property for being spotless and "cosy", but did observe that the hot tub required around two hours to heat up.
They said: "First impressions were amazing, the barn was clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Very warm and cozy on the colder evenings and the wood fired hot tub was a lovely touch - it did take us more than 2 hours to heat but this didn't stop us from enjoying it once it was warm!
"[The property host] was only a message away and provided any answers to queries during our stay. Lots of outdoor space and lovely walks for the dogs, right from the door step.
"One small area for improvement could have been a slightly more secure garden, it is not fully enclosed due to large gaps in the wooden fencing, but again this didn't stop us from having a wonderful stay. We would highly recommend and hope to visit again in the future - thank you."
Another guest commented: "First time we've rented from Sykes and we were very impressed. Everything about the booking, pre stay information and check in process was very well organised.
"The house itself exceeded our expectations. It is incredibly well appointed and everything is of the highest quality (excellent beds, linen, towels, showers, kitchen and cooking utensils).
"The layout of 2 doubles with 2 twin rooms in the middle suited our party perfectly. Excellent walking direct from the door and even more at a short distance. Coastal beaches also accessible. We didn't get around to using the wood fired hot tub but it's a lovely addition. Absolutely recommend Lower Walreddon Barn."
A third visitor noted: "Lovely walks to the moors straight from the door and ending the day in the hot tub was an added bonus. One thing to note is that although the garden is enclosed with fencing the gaps I between the rails are quite large so small and large dog can still pass through it. This didn't affect our stay, just a note for future booking." Devon getaways
