APC chairman shot dead in Kogi

Unidentified gunmen have killed Ishaq Yunusa, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A statement by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, said the command had launched an investigation into the incident which occurred along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the incident occurred around Ojuwo Olijo at about 5:00pm on Thursday when armed assailants emerged from the surrounding bush and shot indiscriminately at motorists.

The police further said that a blue Toyota Corolla was later found abandoned along the highway, with the driver, identified as Ishaq Yunusa, found dead inside the vehicle.

The police disclosed that another occupant of the vehicle was taken into the surrounding bush by the gunmen.

The Kogi police spokesperson stated that security operatives were combing the forest to rescue the abducted victim and track down those responsible, noting that the body of the deceased has been evacuated to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy.

“The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, has ordered sustained security operations along the affected corridor and directed efforts to bring the attackers to justice.

“Motorists and residents along the route should remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies,” the police said.
