Kebbi NLC challenges Malami’s claims on workers’ welfare
by Mikal Attah · Daily PostThe Kebbi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has rejected the promises made to workers by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, describing them as political statements.
The NLC chairman in the state, Usman Murtala, stated this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi while reacting to Malami’s Independence Day address.
Murtala said Malami’s pledges on pensions and gratuities did not reflect the situation in the state, claiming that retired civil servants had continued to receive their payments without backlogs.
He also rejected Malami’s proposal to raise the minimum wage for Kebbi workers to N110,000, saying the state government currently pays N75,000, including leave grants.
