PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi under investigation

Paris Saint-Germain, PSG, president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, is being investigated in France over conflict of interest, prosecutors in Paris confirmed on Sunday.

This is linked to his dual stewardship of the Champions League title holders and the beIN Media Group.

L’Equipe reports that it also involves a meeting on broadcasting rights with the French football league’s representatives in July 2024.

The meeting took place on the day after beIN Sports submitted a €100m offer for rights to broadcast one Ligue 1 fixtures weekly.

France’s professional football league eventually accepted the offer.

The investigation into al-Khelaifi follows a tip-off from the anti-graft Anticor association, with proceedings entrusted to the anti-corruption and finance police.

Anticor claims al-Khelaifi was involved in discussions on the validation of beIN Sports’ bid despite also serving as chairman of beIN Media Group, creating a conflict of interest.
