2027: Opeyemi Bamidele emerges APC senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central
by Sunday Dennis · Daily PostAhead of the 2027 general elections, Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central.
Bamidele emerged without opposition.
His emergence was confirmed in a list of successfully screened senatorial aspirants in Ekiti State released by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Arugungu.
According to the list, other aspirants cleared by the party for the senatorial race include the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, and Bamidele Faparusi for the Ekiti South Senatorial District.
For Ekiti North Senatorial District, the party cleared the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, alongside Senator Ayo Arise, Mr Oladipupo Bamisaye, and Chief Oluwadare Owolabi.
With the latest development, Bamidele is set to fly the APC flag for Ekiti Central Senatorial District for a third consecutive time, following what party supporters described as strong backing from constituents.
The Senate Leader first secured the APC senatorial ticket for the district in 2019 after a closely contested primary election against the then-incumbent senator, Mrs Fatimat Raji-Rasaki.
He also emerged as the party’s unopposed senatorial candidate in 2023, a development attributed to his performance in legislative duties, constituency representation, and oversight responsibilities in the National Assembly.
