Atiku floors Amaechi in Imo ADC presidential primaries
by Matthew Atungwu · Daily PostThe African Democratic Congress, ADC, has declared former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the winner of its presidential primary election in Imo State.
Chairman of the ADC National Presidential Primary Electoral Panel, Imo State, Eko Atu, who made this announcement on Tuesday, said Atiku recorded an overwhelming victory in the exercise in the 305 political wards and 27 council areas of the state.
Atu said that Atiku polled 52,200 votes, while the former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi scored 7,659 votes to finish second. Mohammed Hayatudeen, got 1,121 votes to come third.
He thanked ADC members and the leadership of the party in Imo State under Prof James Okoroma for providing an enabling environment which enables the electoral panel to perform its statutory responsibility.
He said: “Atiku’s triumph in Imo positions him for eventual victory in the state which is the stronghold of ADC in the South-East”.
