Champions League: EPL secures fifth spot for next season after Arsenal beat Sporting

The Premier League will again have five Champions League slots next season.

This was confirmed on Tuesday night, following Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Sporting in the quarter-final first leg.

With the game heading to a goalless draw, Kai Havertz controlled a pass from Gabriel Martinelli to finish calmly.

A fifth-place finish in England’s topflight this campaign will now be enough for Champions League qualification.

It is the second consecutive year that the Premier League has earned an additional spot, as they sit top of the European Performance Standings.

Liverpool currently occupy fifth position on the log, only one point ahead of Chelsea in sixth place.
