Terrorists attack Kano community, kill one, injure others
by Amos Tauna · Daily PostSuspected gunmen attacked Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving one person dead and several others injured, thereby prompting heightened security measures across the area.
The incident occurred on Thursday night in Barbaji village, Jajaye Ward, when four armed men reportedly stormed the community around 9:00 p.m on motorcycles and dressed in khaki, and targeted a local vigilante member identified as Alasan Yellow.
A source told DAILY POST that the victim was shot at a close range in front of his shop, triggering panic among residents. He said in the confusion, another individual who attempted to intervene was also shot.
The attackers proceeded to a nearby vigilante office, where they opened fire indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety.
Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, the Commander of the Rogo vigilante group confirmed the incident while briefing local authorities, explaining that
one person died at the scene, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
According to him, “Four of the victims are currently receiving treatment for varying degrees of injuries. It prompted response by local security personnel who helped to prevent further casualties.”
He stated that vigilante members, supported by security operatives, evacuated the injured to nearby medical facilities, stressing that one of the victims, reported to be in critical condition, was later referred to a hospital in Gwarzo for advanced treatment.
Authorities, according to him, have since reinforced security in the area, deploying a joint patrol team comprising personnel from neighbouring Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue on how to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
