Funeral for late Senator Lindsey Graham to begin July 28 in Washington

Funeral ceremonies for the late US Senator Lindsey Graham will commence on Tuesday, July 28, in Washington, D.C., before concluding the following day in his home state of South Carolina, according to an announcement by his sister and successor, Senator Darline Graham.

The late senator’s remains will be escorted into the US Capitol by members of the United States military in recognition of his service as a retired US Air Force colonel.

A ceremonial guard from the US Capitol Police will then carry his casket into the Capitol Rotunda, where a brief tribute will be held in the Senate.

Following the Capitol ceremony, Graham’s body will be transported to the Washington National Cathedral for a funeral service scheduled for 2:00 p.m., with US President Donald Trump expected to attend.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also indicated his intention to be present, according to his office.

Later that evening, the senator’s remains will be flown to South Carolina for the second phase of the funeral arrangements.

On Wednesday, July 29, Graham’s casket will be carried across the grounds of the South Carolina State House, accompanied by a ceremonial flyover by F-16 fighter jets.

A funeral service will then be held at the First Baptist Church of Columbia before he is laid to rest during a private family burial in Pickens County, South Carolina.

Senator Lindsey Graham died on July 11, bringing to an end a long career in public service that included decades in the US Senate and military service in the Air Force Reserve.
