SDP elects Sadiq Gombe as national chairman
by Mikal Attah · Daily PostThe Social Democratic Party, SDP, has elected Professor Sadiq Gombe as National Chairman of the party following its 2026 national convention held in Bauchi State on Saturday.
Gombe was elected alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee during the convention attended by delegates and party stakeholders from across the country.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, the new SDP chairman thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide transparent and committed leadership in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
“We assure you of our commitment to the ideals, principles and wellbeing of the party and Nigeria,” he said.
Gombe said the SDP would position itself as an alternative political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that the party remained committed to addressing the country’s challenges through democratic governance.
Earlier, Chairman of the National Convention Committee, Usman Bugaje, said the convention reflected the party’s determination to build a stronger political platform focused on security, economic development and poverty reduction.
He also criticised the current state of governance in the country, citing insecurity, unemployment and economic hardship among the challenges facing Nigerians.
The convention also produced other members of the SDP National Working Committee, including Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Ugochukwu Uba; National Secretary, Olu Agunloye; National Treasurer, Hajiya Mariam Maggie Batubo; and National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, among others.
