Yellow thunderstorm warning issued for Dublin, Louth and Meath

A STATUS YELLOW thunderstorm warning has come into immediate effect in Dublin, Louth and Meath. 

Met Éireann issued the warning just before 3pm today and it will remain in effect until 7pm tonight. 

The forecaster said the effects of the heavy, thundery showers may include lightning damage, spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

Meanwhile, there are already Yellow thunderstorm warnings in counties Antrim, Fermanagh, Down, Armagh, Tyrone and Derry. 

Those warnings, issued by the UK Met Office, will remain in place until 9pm tonight.

Separately, a Status Yellow rain and wind warning has been issued for Donegal from 2am until 2pm on Wednesday. 

Met Éireann said the county will be unseasonably blustery overnight and into Wednesday with spells of heavy rain, especially near coasts and on higher ground.

This could lead to some disruption to outdoor events and activities, as well as difficult travelling conditions and spot flooding.

Overall today, conditions will be humid, with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 or 24 degrees.

It will be warmest in the east and south, with westerly winds becoming mostly moderate, increasing to fresh and occasionally gusty along the west coast in the evening.

Tonight will be mainly dry at first, with just isolated showers and some clear spells.

Clouds will move in overnight, bringing a scattering of showers from the west, with some persistent rain and drizzle spreading into parts of Ulster, north Connacht and possibly north Leinster.
