Subnautica 2 Early Access release date set for May 14th
by Aran Suddi · tsaIt has taken a while to get here, but Unknown Worlds has confirmed that Subnautica 2 will launch into Steam Early Access on May 14th, so it is less than two weeks away. The studio also confirmed that Subnautica 2 Early Access will launch at a price of $29.99 and that price will include every update and the eventual 1.0 release.
Behind the scenes, there has been quite a lot of drama at Unknown Worlds when the original co-founders were ousted by publisher Krafton over a $250 million bonus, with accusations the publisher had used an AI chatbot to find a way to get out of paying. A lawsuit was filed for wrongful termination with the judge siding with Max McGuire and Ted Gill, the Unknown Worlds founders and ordering their reinstatement. Let’s hope for calmer waters ahead.
In our Subnautica review, Rebecca said, “Subnautica is a perfect example an open world survival game that doesn’t rely on action, horror or combat elements to excite. Whilst these classic gaming features are involved to an extent, they take a back seat compared to the story, crafting and surviving elements. And this is what sets Subnautica apart from other survival experiences out there. Don’t let this be the one that got away.”
