007 First Light races to 1.5 million sales in first 24 hours
by Stefan L · tsaIO Interactive has celebrated a successful launch for 007 First Light, their long-awaited James Bond game, announcing that over 1.5 million copies were sold within the game’s first 24 hours.
“1.5 million copies sold!” IO posted on social media. “Thank you for showing up to the launch of 007 First Light, for your overwhelming enthusiasm and for sharing your experience with the game.”
It makes for great news for the Hitman developer, who were branching out into their first licensed game after spending the bulk of the 2010s working on their Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy. While, on the surface level, Agent 47’s exploits and subterfuge made IO a perfect fit for a James Bond game, with the character relying on similar traits to infiltrate locations, the end result is a game with much more of an action adventure feel, calling back to the likes of Uncharted, the hacking of Watch Dogs, and then with out-and-out firefights and car chase sequences.
We’ve not quite pinned a score on our review, but Jim has said “it’s an incredibly well-executed action adventure with a truly engrossing story, slick presentation, and layered gameplay systems.”
