Something for the Weekend – 12/09/26

Nintendo had not one, but two Direct streams, with millions tuning in to see the reveal of the Ocarina of Time remake and then ponder how they truly felt about the new art direction, but then came the barmy news that PlayStation was ditching Hideo Kojima’s next stealth action game, and allowing Xbox to swoop in and pick it up.
Wild stuff, and wild timing, considering the announcement came half a day before Wolverine reviews dropped. Was this an attempt to bury the news? Or to bury the mixed review scores? It didn’t really work…
In the News This Week

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is launching 5th November
- Sony wanted to cancel Kojima’s PHYSINT project, so now it’s an Xbox game
- Report: The Saudi PIF is thinking of merging EA with Savvy
- Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition coming to Switch 2, but it’s not a Switch 2 Edition DLC
- Metroid Ravenous is a new side-scrolling adventure, and Samus is really hungry

So, there was this one big game review drop this week, and we wrapped up a couple of August games.
- Marvel’s Wolverine – PS5 – 8/10 (video review)
- Star Wars Zero Company – PS5, XSX|S, PC – 7/10
- Mortal Shell II – PS5, XSX|S, PC – 7/10
We then had another big tangle of previews from Gamescom and the last couple weeks. Nick’s forays into the horror games of Gamescom included Agni: Village of Calamity, When Sirens Fall Silent, and the authentically gruesome Hellraiser: Revival. He then had the chance to cleanse his palate with the Animal Crossing-like Petit Planet and silver screen action of Stuntman: Hollywood.
I, meanwhile, put on my finest Mobile Suit for some Gundam Rogue Orbit, had a grand old time synthesising monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, and zoomed around Germany in Crazy Taxi: World Tour. I also spent some time exploring the now fully contiguous world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which is kind of remarkable.
Nic then got to explore the upcoming Magic: The Gathering – Reality Fracture expansion, and Jason was double-decking his way through Shroom & Gloom.
We wrap up with What We Played featuring Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, Zero Company & Marvel’s Wolverine.

- Andrewww is getting an early spooky time start with Silent Hill 2, since it was rumoured that it might leave PS Plus soon. Unfortunately, his tendency to click R3 whenever he’s jump scared keeps turning off his flashlight, which is constantly leaving him in even scarier situations!
