Football Manager 26 gets international management ahead of FIFA World Cup

Football Manager 26 launched with one of the series’ big features missing, that being international management. Players could not choose to manage an international team and guide them to glory in international tournaments. From May 26th, that will change as Sports Interactive has announced that international management will be added to Football Manager 26 ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which is licensed for the first time.

From May 26th, 47 of the 48 qualified teams will be playable but not all teams will have their official kits as licensing discussions are still happening. When the update launches you will be able to start up the FIFA World Cup 26 mode, which begins on May 11th allowing you to play two friendlies before heading to the tournament proper. You can opt to manage your club and an international team simultaenously, with your clubs season being simulated up to May 11th if you go down that route. You can also import saves from FM23 and FM24 for international teams.

There have been changes made to international management as it comes to Football Manager 26. One of those its the Provisional Squad selection system, which allows players to call up a large selection of players and then choose to cut that list down to the final squad. In the Squad Planner, there will be an option to select a provisional squad too. The National Shortlist will include an overview called Player Discovery of eligible players and their recent performances at club level, along with what their international expectations are so you can see who is expecting to be called up and players who think they have no chance. Scouts will also be able to find players that have dual citizenship who have not yet decided which country to play for. When it comes to match preparation for each game, you will be able to set the focus for in possession, out of possession, and set pieces. Player recovery will also be improved so they can play more matches in the tournament too.
