Kilimanoor maintains lead at District School Arts Festival

With the District School Arts Festival at Neyyattinkara entering the last lap, competition to lift the championship has intensified.

Kilimanoor sub-district that has been in the lead since the beginning continued to top the leaderboard with 635 points. Thiruvananthapuram South climbed up the points tally to occupy the second position with 627 points. Attingal sub-district was third with 612 points. Thiruvananthapuram North slipped down to fourth position.

Among schools, Carmel Higher Secondary School, Vazhuthacaud, was leading with 185 points. SK VHS, Nanniyode, Palode, retained the second position with 150 points. KTCT EM HSS, Kaduvayil, Kilimanoor, was not too far behind with 142 points.

Thursday will be the last day of the competition events, and the valedictory on Friday afternoon. The prominent events scheduled for the day include Mohiniyattom, group dance, Oppana, mime, drama, mimicry, mono act, elocution, recitation, Parichamuttu, Margamkali, Chavittunatakam, light music, patriotic song, and tribal art forms such as Irula dance, Malapulayattam, Paliya dance, Mangalamkali, and Paniya dance.

The folk dance event got a contemporary twist when participants presented the Wayanad landslide on stage.

U.D. Bhadra of Carmel Higher Secondary School, Vazhuthacaud, and B.S. Ujjwala of MM UPS, Peroor, helped break the monotony with a ‘different’ performance in the upper primary category. The disaster at Chooralmala and the emotional struggles of the people there in the aftermath of the tragedy were the theme of the students’ performances.

The lack of innovative performances this time too proved disappointing. Most of the performances dealt with the practice of dowry, Nangeli’s story, and other routine themes.
