A welcome truce

The U.S.-brokered truce between Israel and Hezbollah is welcome as it marks the first meaningful de-escalation in West Asia since 2023. While Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that his country reserves the right to take military action if terrorist infrastructure is rebuilt, he cannot remain oblivious to international opprobrium for his unconscionable and disproportionate response to the October 7 Hamas attack.

More than 44,000 Palestinians have been killed.

A re-enactment

There seems to be no end to the growing anarchy in Bangladesh.

The disconnect between the government and its people has been the one common factor in socio-political uprisings, irrespective of the spread of world geography. In most cases, majority governments have tended towards absolutism and then autocracy.

The French Revolution keeps being re-enacted as nations’ economies are getting increasingly globalised.

Pharma-drug safety

The article, “Ban this carcinogenic ‘heartburn drug’ (Opinion page, November 28), was shocking. It is a wake-up call as far as the common man is concerned. There has to be pharma drug safety, with an emphasis on safer alternatives.
