Met Office verdict on whether more snow will fall in UK this week
by Miranda Pell · Manchester Evening NewsParts of the UK, including Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Scotland and the Lake District, were hit by an early winter snow storm last night.
The Met Office had issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice for parts of the country which were in force from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning..
The yellow weather warnings covered the Midlands, northern England, parts of Northern Ireland, north east Wales and sections of Northern Ireland.
Monday night's snow has resulted in more than 200 school closures across the UK and road closures.
There were also delays at Birmingham Airport, a number of reported crashes and multiple road closures across the country - with the Snake Pass being shut.
The Met Office’s five-day UK weather forecast suggests that wintry showers will continue throughout the week for parts of the country.
Tuesday will see rain, sleet and snow across central parts of England and Wales this morning with it getting tradually turning drier this afternoon.
Wintry showers continuing in the north tonight with widespread frost and some icy stretches where showers fall.
There will be more wintry showers in the north on Wednesday. Between Thursday to Saturday the Met Office adds: "Staying cold with wintry showers in the north on Thursday and Friday, mainly in the north. Sunny spells in between and brisk winds. Wet and windy weather arriving on Saturday."
