Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight cancellation explained after boxing legend's health scare

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are a matter of hours away from their much-anticipated and highly controversial fight at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.

The 27-year-old YouTuber has turned his hand to boxing in recent years and after fighting UFC stars and Tommy Fury, who handed Paul his first loss in the ring, the former Disney star is set to take on his most decorated challenger yet. Tyson may be 58 years old but he is still considered to be one of the 'baddest men on the planet'.

Despite his incredible career, Tyson's decision to take on an opponent half his age has raised eyebrows in the boxing community and led some to criticise the event taking place at all. These calls only increased when the original fight was postponed at the end of May.

Originally, the two men were set to face off live on Netflix on June 20, however an incident on a flight forced Tyson to pull out. The boxer became nauseous and dizzy on a flight between Miami and Los Angeles with first responders treating the legend once his plane arrived at its destination.

Explaining what had happened, the fight's promoter said at the time: "During a follow-up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare-up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations." This led the fight to be postponed until the early hours of Saturday, November 16, UK time.

Determined to return, Tyson said in May: "My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good.

"I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year." Tyson is now on the verge of keeping that promise to his fans.

The undercard in Texas shall begin at 1am UK time on Saturday morning with Paul and Tyson set to make their entrances at around 4am. In an innovative move, Netflix subscribers will be able to watch the fight as part of their subscriptions.
