Roy Keane has just told Ruben Amorim what his biggest challenge is at Man United

Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Roy Keane has warned new head coach Ruben Amorim that he faces the greatest challenge of his career at Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old took charge of his first Premier League game at United on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Marcus Rashford, who started the game as a centre forward, opened the scoring inside the opening 90 seconds as he met a perfectly timed cross from Amad.

However, United's dominance dwindled as the first half wore on and Omari Hutchinson put the hosts back on level terms. By full-time, Ipswich had recorded six attempts on target compared to United's four, despite the visitors enjoying more possession.

United remain 12th in the Premier League standings after 12 games with just four wins to their name. They are 15 points behind leaders Liverpool, seven behind Manchester City and six behind Arsenal.

According to Keane, who made over 470 appearances for United during his playing days, the big test for Amorim is closing the gap on their rivals. The Portuguese coach did a fine job at Sporting CP as they battled it out with the likes of Porto and Benfica to win two league titles, but repeating that in England is a different test altogether.

“The challenge of sporting to Manchester United, to me, is chalk and cheese," he told Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon. "You have to be same principles, but trying to get Manchester United competing back up with Man City and Liverpool, no doubt will be the biggest challenge he faces in his career.”

United will hope to record their first victory under Amorim midweek when they take on FK Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. Then, they have the visit of Everton next Sunday afternoon.
