Liam Payne dead: Celebrities pay tribute to One Direction star who died aged 31 in Argentina

After Liam Payne's tragic death, several celebrities including Paris Hilton, Jedward and Rylan Clark paid tribute to the 31-year-old singer, who was part of One Direction

Celebrities have paid tribute to Liam Payne after the former One Direction star tragically died aged 31.

Buenos Aires police said in a statement that the singer fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in the trendy Palermo neighbourhood of Argentina's capital which resulted in "extremely serious injuries." Doctors confirmed his death on the spot, the statement said.

Paris Hilton is among the celebrities who paid tribute to Liam after his tragic death, as she described the news as "so upsetting" while sending "love and condolences" to his friends and family. She tweeted: "So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend."

Irish singing and television presenting duo Jedward wrote on X, formerly called Twitter: "RIP Liam Payne. condolences to friends and family." They added: "Sending strength to Cheryl and his son Bear and all the One direction Family." John and Edward Grimes, known as Jedward, started their careers on X Factor, the same reality TV show that launched One Direction.

Media personality and fellow former X Factor contestant Rylan Clark said Liam Payne's death was "tragic". In a post on X, the broadcaster described news of the singer's death as "extremely sad", saying: "Extremely sad news. V tragic and so young. RIP Liam x"

British entrepreneur Steven Bartlett, known for appearing as an investor on BBC One show Dragons' Den, added: "Cannot believe what I'm reading about Liam Payne. Absolutely heartbreaking."

The official profile of MTV added on X: "We're deeply saddened to learn of Liam Payne's tragic passing today. During this difficult time, our hearts remain with his family, loved ones, and fans."

The official X account of the BRIT Awards tweeted: "We're incredibly sad to learn of the tragic passing of Liam Payne. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this time."

Liam was part of the original line-up of the world-famous boy band One Direction, formed in 2010, alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles. After becoming one of the biggest pop groups in the world with five albums and four world tours, they went on indefinite hiatus in 2016.

He released his debut solo album LP1 in December 2019 which included the singles Polaroid and Familiar. He and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl share a son Bear, born in 2017, having been in a high-profile relationship between 2016 and 2018.

She was an "X Factor" judge during One Direction's season. Liam is also survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, and his two older sisters, Ruth and Nicola.
