Liverpool news: Real Madrid consider Trent Alexander-Arnold rethink as contract talks progress

Liverpool are currently in fine form after dismissing of Crystal Palace at the weekend but Arne Slot is also getting down to work behind the scenes at Anfield on some major decisions

by · The Mirror

New Liverpool boss Arne Slot has enjoyed a near perfect start to life with the club.

The Reds have won nine out of the ten games under the Dutchman - a run that was extended with Saturday’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. It has left Liverpool top of the Premier League heading into the second international break of the season.

While a host of players are set to fly away to all corners of the globe for the next fortnight, the work will not stop. Slot is still set to put the remaining players through their paces, while he could also start looking into the January transfer window.

A few players have been linked with winter moves despite the Reds’ brilliant recent form. Take a look at all of the headlines from Anfield.

Real Madrid ponder Alexander-Arnold move

Real Madrid could potentially move forward their swoop for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold amid a major injury blow. Current Madrid captain Dani Caravajal has been ruled out for the majority of the campaign after picking up a serious knee injury.

And the Spanish giants could pursue Alexander-Arnold as a successor. Real have long been linked with a move for the Liverpool star amid his expiring contract, but were content to wait until the end of the current season to try and get him for nothing.

Marca suggest that the club have moved forward their pursuit of a new right-back, with Lucas Vazquez left as their only option as it stands. A decision is set to be made over the next few days.

Contract talks progress

While Liverpool will be left slightly nervous over Alexander-Arnold’s future, they are trying to tie down two members of their squad to new, long-term deals. The Reds are already in advanced talks with Jarell Quansah over a new contract.

The youngster made a breakthrough last season and is now expected to be rewarded with new terms that will bring him in line with his first team status. An agreement is expected to be struck over the coming weeks.

He is not the only one closing in on a new deal. The Reds are also keen to tie down Ibrahima Konate, with the Frenchman having just two years remaining on his deal.

Talks with his representatives are at a much earlier stage. There is not thought to be any rush in reaching an agreement though.

Shearer shares title verdict

Alan Shearer has warned that Liverpool’s title hopes could rely on their stars staying fit for the season. Asked whether Liverpool can win the league on Match of the Day, the former Premier League champion said: “They certainly can, absolutely.

"If they can steer clear of injuries, you’ve seen a couple that they’ve had today. But I think we’ve seen enough already in the first few games to say that they’ll be strong. It’s been a really good start."
