PlayStation reportedly ditched Hideo Kojima’s Physint due to budget and sales concerns
Sony ended its publishing deal for Physint before Xbox scooped the game up.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsPlayStation shocked the industry this week when it announced the end of its deal to publish Physint, an upcoming game from Kojima Productions. The studio didn’t provide an explanation as to what led to the decision, but a new Bloomberg report claims that it came down to budgetary and sales concerns.
Jason Schreier reported that Physint was over budget and had missed deadlines, which led to the company’s decision to terminate the partnership. However, in a video regarding the story, Schreier clarified that it’s unclear how far over budget the game was, and that there could have been other factors, such as personality conflicts, involved.
Hideo Kojima himself wrote that PlayStation informed him of their plans to cancel Physint this summer. Following the breakup, the game designer negotiated a deal with Xbox, which will now publish Physint, as well as the previously announced OD.
Physint was announced during a PlayStation event in 2024. Last year, the studio announced Charlee Fraser and Don Lee as members of the game’s cast.
