How to get the Tadpole Hull Chassis in Subnautica 2
The Tadpole Hull Chassis is the final upgrade to your trusty Tadpole in Subnautica 2. Here's how to to get it.
by John Schutt · ShacknewsIf you want the ability to farm tons of late-game items in Subnautica 2, you need the Tadpole Hull Chassis. It comes with two large cargo holds and two additional seats if you’re playing co-op. Finding the parts you need, however, will take time and is anything but safe. Here’s where to find the three pieces of the Tadpole Hull Chassis.
Where to find Tadpole Hull Chassis parts in Subnautica 2
You need to find and scan three Tadpole Hull Chassis parts to unlock the crafting recipe. You’ll find all of them in the rock structures near the alien ruins east of the final outpost, itself a distant 1,200 meters east of the starting Lifepod.
There are more than three parts to find, meaning where you go exactly will depend on where and how much you explore. That said, the three Hull Chassis parts presented here do not require the Tadpole Depth Module. Only a bit of patience.
The first of the Chassis parts is about 320 meters south-by-southeast of the Alien Ruins research center, or directional marker 130 or so. NoA might give you directions to a black box from Ruby, which is in the same cave as the Chassis part.
As you approach from the west, you'll pass a large cave system on your right, but if you're not yet 300 meters away from the research base, you need to keep going.
You're looking for a yawning cave mouth below you, beneath a small set of platforms leaning off the side of a cliff. The cave in question is well below the 250-meter crush depth of a Tadpole, so you'll need to go in manually. Head down into the mouth of the cave and turn north (left).
You'll quickly encounter the Hull Chassis part at the bottom of the cave, conveniently near the Tadpole Depth Module upgrade recipe.
The second and third Hull Chassis pieces are close to one another, but are both a good 850-900 meters east of the research station marked “Alien Ruins.” If you explore long enough for NoA to send you the black box signal of Singh, you’ll be sent directly to the first of these.
To reach the second Hull Chassis part, head almost directly east from the Alien Ruins base, at directional marker ~90 (just a bit to the left of 105). You can also go almost directly east from the first Chassis part about 700 meters.
Continue until you see a large portion of the Cicada colony ship hanging from a tall, rocky outcropping. Below it and near the western edge of the lower rock shelf is a small strip of manufactured material with the Hull Chassis part leaning up against a railing.
From the second Chassis part, look directly northeast, or directional marker 45, and travel about 180 meters. You don’t need to ascend much, and you’ll eventually reach another rocky plateau where another Chassis part rests atop a railing this time.
Now that you’ve scanned all the Chassis parts and have the full recipe, return to your base. You can craft the Tadpole Hull Chassis for four Titanium Ingots, three Strontium Ingots, three Enamelled Glass, and one Dedicated Core.
Expensive, yes, but the Hull Chassis is worth it. It comes with two seats for co-op partners and two 30-slot cargo storage containers. It’s a bit on the sluggish side, but great for longer journeys where you need to stock up on both food and rare materials.
There’s a strong sense of actual pride and satisfaction when you do make it, as well, which feels nice.
